St. Brigid is the patroness saint of Ireland and her feast day is 1 February. It is celebrated by weaving rushes into crosses and hanging them over the doors and windows. One of the most well-known stories is of Brigid asking the King of Leinster for land to build a convent. The king laughed at her and refused.  She asked the King to give her the land that her cloak would cover. The king thought that she was joking and agreed. Instead of laying it flat, her sisters took corners of the cloak and ran, increasing the size of the cloak. The King gave her the land she requested and soon afterward, the king became a Christian, began to help the poor, and commissioned the building of the convent.
